6 Hour Initial Medication Assistance Technician Course

Heartsavers of Manatee offers an instructor-led Initial 6-Hour Med Tech Class in Bradenton, Florida. This course is ideal for unlicensed staff members who assist residents with the self-administration of medications in Assisted Living Facilities. The training is aligned with Florida Agency for Health Care Administration guidelines and focuses on safe, responsible medication assistance within the participant’s authorized role.

Students learn medication safety, proper documentation, medication labels and orders, the rights of medication assistance, infection control, medication storage and common medication errors. The course also addresses observing residents for changes, reporting concerns and understanding when assistance must be stopped and referred to a licensed healthcare professional.  This course meets the requirements of Chapter 429 F.S. and Rule 59A-36.011, F.A.C. for Assisted Living Facilities.

Training is provided by Casie Piper, BSN-RN, BCEN, an experienced registered nurse and instructor. Students receive clear instruction, hands-on skills practice and a competency evaluation to help them confidently apply what they have learned in an assisted living setting. A same-day certificate of completion is issued after the student successfully completes all course requirements.

The cost is $99 per student and Certificates are issued same day of class upon successful completion of the class.
